Going Once...Going Twice....Sold!!!!

The Tooele County Fair and Livestock Show was a complete success!!! Mallory and her little lambs (almost sounds like a song, doesn't it?) did a great job!!
For those of you who are not that familiar with the workings of the stock show.....There is a Grand Champion (1st place)-the Reserve Champion (2nd place)-the Star Class (like the All Star team)-blue ribbons-and red ribbons. There were eight weight classes. The lambs in each weight class are judged and ranked 1 to 10. The lambs ranked 1 and 2 in each weight class are invited to the star class. The rankings decide which lambs are sold first....so, let the show begin....

July 31, 2008-Ma and Babe were weighed in and set up in the pen. Ma-147 lbs...Babe-134 lbs. They are on the bigger side so they weren't judged until classes 6 and 8 on August 1, 2008. "Showmanship" was in the afternoon! Mals was great! She is getting so good at showing those wooley creatures.

August 1, 2008-The lamb judging started at 12:00-HIGH NOON! It was hot! But it was still a great day! Babe got a red ribbon but was ranked pretty high in her weight class. Ma, however, made it to the Star Class! Go Ma!! She was ranked two in her weight class. Mals was way excited!

August 2, 2008-The Auction!!! The fun began at 10:00 AM. We had heard there weren't many buyers so were worried that Mals wouldn't get much money....Boy, were we wrong!!! Ma went for a whopping $650! Let's keep in mind that the Grand Champion went for $350....Great Job!!!

Babe was sold for $525, still a great price! When Mals came over after Babe was sold, she said to me, "Well, I just walked Babe to her grave." I asked her if she felt sad about that and quickly answered, "Heck, NO! I just got 525 bocks!" All in all, Mallory was pretty happy!
